Child custody and parenting plans

On Behalf of | Aug 3, 2016 | child custody | 0 comments

Child custody and visitation can be a very challenging aspect of divorce and family law. In particular, parents may worry about how they are going to be able to continue to spend time with their children on a regular basis. However, there are some things you can put into place to make this easier. These include taking the time to communicate and co-parent with your ex to make sure you are both acting in your children’s best interests.

One of the most important things with which your attorney helps you is creating your parenting plan. While there are standard parenting plans you can use depending on if you have joint or sole custody, it’s often best to have your agreement tailored to your specific situation and the needs of your children.

Some things that your parenting plan might take into consideration include odd parent work schedules or the children’s school schedules and extracurricular activities. For instance, if a parent works afternoons or swing shifts, the typical parenting time agreement may not be the best choice. Similarly, if your child has many after-school or weekend activities, it may take a bit more coordination to determine which parent will be in charge of taking and picking up the child.

At Gibson Law Offices, we work with parents in all different life stages and situations to come up with parenting plans that protect their relationships with their children, as well as their parental rights. If you have an existing plan already in place, we can also help you with necessary modifications as your or your children’s circumstances change.
